Blocking Of Onitsha South LGA Gate: Chairman Re-Assures Workers On Safety

Following blocking of entrance into the Onitsha South Local Government Area Secretariat by a group, the Transition Committee Chairman of the LGA, Mr Emeka Asoanya reassures workers of their safety telling them to go about their duties without fears. 

The workers had resumed work after a public only to see that palm fronds were tied at the Secretariat gate. 

There were various inscriptions like, “Do not open this gate’’. 

The TC Chairman informed the workers that a joint Police team from the Area Command, Central Police Station (CPS) and Police Station, Fegge had been deployed to tighten security in the area. 

He was said to have given a directive for workers not to entertain fears. This was  delivered through his Personal Assistant (PA) Mr Anselm Onyeaku. 

The workers were in groups in front of the Secretariat gate as they were afraid to open the gate. “When chairman heard of it he immediately contacted the Police to deploy its men to the secretariat.’’ 

The chairman was said to have given a directive to security men to open the gate for workers to assess their offices, saying that there was no cause for alarm. 

The Divisional Officer, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Innocent Offor confirmed the incident. 

Mr Emeka Onyukwu and Mrs Margaret Okeke, workers at the secretariat said they were frightened about the incident and could not concentrate after they entered their various offices.
